you can make it sound more powerful buy getting a new muffler like a flowmaster one. that will come to a total of about 100 dollars. or cut off the old muffler and buy a pipe form the hardware store and extend it to the back. that will also make it go faster to. here is a long list of how to get alot of power for little…
within a weekend and no more than75 bucks tops you can get an easy 20 horsepower atleast.
first go to ebay and buy a cheap cold air kit for 40 dollars. then install it and go to the store and buy some plumbers pipe and set up a nice ram air design to right under the filter. you can easily get 15 hp from this and a much greater sounding car.
then take your plugs out and mark the open end on the plug and put them in and index them so that the black line you marked in facing the intake side of cylinders
while your at the store buy some refrigerant duct or some insulater and insulate all the fuel lines in the car to help cool down the car.
also buy a coupler at the store. or dig one out of the garage and locate your throttle body then diconnect the to lines of coolant flow and connect them to the coupling. put TIGHT clamps on. this will help cool down the throttle body ALOT and create colder air which means more power. this is proven to get back 10 ftpnds of torque of a hot engine and good for .2 in the quarter mile
next do a oil change and use synthetic oil in your car. not only will it run your car run longer but its good for about a horse or two
now go to pep boys and buy some nice ngk platinum plugs. NOT IRIDIUM! iriduim tend to break off into the piston and mess your motor up horribly. and get a nice pair of spark plug wires from ebay or somewhere. this is good for about 3hp
now you can get a little hacksaw and cut off that old rusty muffler of yours that is cloged with rust and get a connector pipe and clamp it on from the store. this is good for freeing up the backpressure and about 1 or 2 hp.
now for the fun one. adjust your tps! (throttle position sensor)
you can adjust the TPS to the ideal setting buy slightly rotating it either clockwise or counterclockwise. the sensor itself is held on by 2 bolts. you must “slot” the bolt holes in the sensor so that it can be rotated. what you should shoot for is a reading of .95-.97 volts. .96v is ideal, and thats what ive got mine set on right now. it is proven that it will result in much better throttle response. better idling, and better gas mileage which is important these days. especially since all the gt owners like me are putting premium octane in it. loosen the bolts and turn it VERY SLIGHTLY, the smallest movement makes a big difference. hows to adjust it from a website….
how to adjust
there are 3 wires on the TPS.
Black- ground
Orange- 5 volt reference
Green- Feed (.95-.97 volts)
ignore the orange wire. turn the key ON but do not start the engine. all readings will be taken with the key all the way on but the engine OFF. tap the green wire with your multimeter and set it to DC. monitor the voltage readings. turn the sensor clockwise or counterclockwise until you get it to read .95-.97 volts. as i said, .96 is dead on. THIS TAKES SOME PATIENCE. do it with both mounting bolts only slightly loose. just the slightest movement will make a big change in the reading. once you have it set, snug the bolts down and re-check. it is possible to throw it back off just by tightening the bolts. now you’re done.
i hope this helps some of you… your increases in power/mileage/smooth idle will all depend on how bad it was off in the first place. if you like, check it before you ever remove it just to get an idea what it is reading. mine was running around .80 volts, and i noticed a nice improvement in idle quality and throttle response.
try changing out the transmission filter and fluid. Then get a high flow air filter. Next buy a magna flo muffler or something similar. Also you can put 5 more P.S.I in all of your tires. Do all of these things and it will accelerate faster and sound like it’s got a pair…even though it doesn’t.
The only way is to put loud mufflers on it and do a complete tune up on the engine
