Ok, so i own a 91 mustang lx 4 cylinder (8 spark plug model). I wanted to know what i could to to increase the acceleration for it. Also the car is fine up until second gear, and once it hits 2nd it doesn’t want to accelerate much to hit 3rd, i can push the pedal all the way down and nothing it just goes about it as if i were barley hitting the gas. Whats up with that?
The things that i can think to add more power is to have an engine transplant or add an supercharger or a turbo charger, but be ready with the expenses.
all cars have a weak 2nd gear. but the less power u have, the weaker it seems. the way to make it stronger is to make the car faster. get a custom exhaust set up (dont think they have bolt-on exhaust for 4 cyls, but u could look), then you could get/build a cold air intake. these 2 mods may get you 10hp (i dont really know how reactive the 4cyl r though, so u may get more, but may get less). but the best thing to do is forge the internals and turbocharge it. you will spend a lot of $$$ this way, but all gears will feel really strong and you will be able to stock-lightly modded 5.0s (depending on how much psi u run on the turbo you could beat 5.0s with a decent amount of mods) while getting 30mpgs. also, 3.73 gears will increase accelration in all gears, but you will see mpgs suffer (maybe 1-3) due to the fact that your cruising rpms will be higher.
btw-my v6 mustang gets from 0-47ish faster than it goes 47ish to 60 in second.
Buy some gears for it and you should be happy. I was with my 4.10′s in my 96
Don’t waste your money or time. Look use it for transportation and save for something you want and like. You are wasting your money and time trying to make this car go fast, keep it stock and strive for better things. If it needs work take it to a auto shop and have them give you an estimate on what is wrong with it. Then save for that bill.
its just gutless and has really high gears. Easy way to add performance put some better gears in it. You have the 7.5 rear diff you can get gears from a 80′s ranger 4 cylinder. Also a aerostar as longs it has the 7.5 diff.
