  2. First look at the “Emissions Label” in your engine compartment, and read the “fine print” to see if your car meets California emissions standards. If it does you’re in luck, you need to do nothing. If it does not it will have to be brought up to California standards. Just a few minor modifications. It doesn’t cost that much.

  4. I bought a Texas car and had it shipped to CA, but I don’t recommend the practice. I think there may not be a limit on the money you can spend on getting it to pass smog. Go to the Cal DMV website and check it out first to be sure. Big Gamble.
