2000 rpms. then when I put it into drive or reverse it falls back down to 600-800 rpm. Is this just my tranny dying out or could it be something else?

  1. the idling problem will be in the iac motor a simple tapping on the motor will free the valve up all tune port fords have these iac motors they build up with carbon and stick replacing them is an option but sooner or later the problem will return the iac motor is located on the upper intake plenum behind the throttle cable it is about 5 inches long and 1 to 2 inches round tap on the motor which is the silver part while running the engine should idle down when the carbon is freed

  2. Something else. I’ve seen similar issues caused by the TPS, or Throttle Position Sensor. I’m assuming when it’s not in park, your foot is on the brake and through the torque converter keeps your RPM’s low.
