Do I have to run Z series tires on my 2004 Mustang MACH 1?

Hi, Most of the Z series tires run over 200 bucks a piece. I really don't run the MACH 1 super hard. Can I opt for a different series low profile tire, save some money and still get a good quality tire? What do you suggest? Thanks!

  1. Cheep out on your clothes food beer but please do not cheep out on the 4 patches of rubber that connect your car to the EARTH. I use tirerack.com for my tire purchases you may want to check other tire sellers Discount tire and Costco Sam’s Club? engineers designed your around a specific tire. My 2006 GTO came with RE-040r Bridgestone and now I have even more expensive RE-010R super high performance Bridgestone tires. I expect the highest level of grip and performance here in Texas and run summer tires year around. I may only require that level of grip once a month once a year. Inexpensive tires Hankook, Cooper, Kuhmo Sumitomo and there are a even China made tires that will never see use on my family’s cars.

  2. Y
Z ratings are for speeds greater than 149mph.

I am a believer in good tires, but I do not see where you will be doing much driving over 150mph.

I live on the Autobahn and know what greater than 150mph is and know what a tire failure at > 100 mph looks like.
But in your case v w y ratings will work fine, are made for your car and its capabilities, and you can save a couple bucks.
But if you really want the Z rated tire go ahead.

  3. you pay for what you get really but don thave to get the highest price tire one as to offer call three shops with size you have ask for cheapest but after they tel lyou what they have then ask what else and next tire they offer will be the better

  4. All too common. I don’t get why people buy nice/more expensive cars then piss and moan about having to use premium gas or in this case Z rated tires. Your car was designed with Z rated tires in mind. And even though you won’t be regularly exceeding 150 MPH, Z rated tires are typically stickier than H or V rated tires and you would be giving up traction. Generally speaking you *Never* skip on tires or brakes. Since they are safety issues. I say pony up for the proper tires, or trade in the Mach for something that may suit you better.
