1st problem you have is the gt’s engine runs stock internals – and likely maximum rwhp a gt engine can safely generate is 400 to at the outside 450….this is generally well know and if anyone is telling you different, they are risking their engine or yours….therefor before you talk bodykit, suspension, transmission, clutch, whatever….you have to deal with the engine.
check it out at the performance shops or call saleen….or have a look at Nov/08 edition “Mustangs and Fast Fords”….quote: “on most stock engines 450rwhp is a solid goal, anymore is compromising the components”
to go beyond 400-450 on a stock gt engine you have to upgrade all the internals with forged/race ready product (pistons, valves, cams etc).
you can take a gt up to its max via better intake/performance manifold/75mm throttle body/tuning chip/performance underdrive pulleys/performance exhaust system and a low boost supercharger (kenne bel maybe best)….and you can make it quicker (not a hp gain but a driving gain) with 3.73 or 4.10 rear end, better chassis set up & short throw transmission….BUT unless you tear apart your engine or replace the internals….it will never get to 600 hp at the rear wheels.
so 1st thing you have to understand is limits of your stock GT engine….THIS is most important to understanding where you want to go with its performance level & at what cost.
i guess what i am saying is that upgrading your stock gt will cost a whole bunch and if you are serious about big power you have to compare the costs of full upgrade of your stock gt engine vs install of a new crate engine or engine swap or an 03/04 cobra engine or trade up to an already modified ‘stang.
check it out, lots of mustang forums around
my last ride was a highly modified gt running 310 rwhp (without a supercharger) but very quick with read end gears & chassis set-up…. and present ride is a terminator (03′s/04′s cobra)
cheers (cobra running 575 rwhp)http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/sh…
Interior check out UPRProducts(dot)com. As far as the Saleen, fuel pump, injectors, tuner, to do it right. Suspension is pretty decent for the 2005+, but check out UPRs tubular control arms, Eibach ProKit springs, Bilstein shocks/Struts (or Tokico), Steeda swabars, UPR bumpsteer kit and endlinks. BFGoodrich Comp TA KDW2 tires, Brembo brakes, etc. Stay away from the swaybars if you are strictly wanting to go drag with it. Also for drag, check out Lakewood suspension and BFG drag radials or Nitto 555Rs (unless you are totally slicking it, then get Mickey Thompson). For street use, 3.73s are good gears bot think 4.10s for drag. Really depends on what you want to do with the car (and what trans you have). Also upgrade the shifter if 5 speed, and axles, subframes, and trans. upgrade if going hardcore. BTW, the Saleen blower sucks for drag, why do you want that? If you are serious about racing, go Procharger F1R. All in all, we need more info in order to better help you.
If you plan on putting 600 to the rear wheels, upgrade your axlesand rebuild your rear end to withstand the torque you will be throwing at it on launch. I’d go with 3.73 or 3.90 gears. You don’t want to be hitting 5th gear in the 1/4 mile. You’ll want racing slicks. Better grip on launch. You might want to also check the maximum HP rating for your stock transmission. It would be a shame to spend all that money and blow your tranny up at the track. I’d invest in sub frame connectors, and upgraded upper and lower control arms.
If money is no object, call a custom shop and tell them what you intend to do. They will give you recommendations as to how to best set your car up for your needs. Find one that specializes in Mustangs.
Best bet for the interior parts is going to be the dealership but it is going to be expensive. I wonder if they sell a kit, you could try contacting them.
Rear end wise, i would go with 31spline axles, and atleast 4:10 gears.
What gbc is saying is right’ Just get U a 03/04 Cobra. I wanted my 1994 GT to have power like that. You have to change some much until its not worth unless you know somebody in the salvage yard, builders
Good luck’
